Thomas More Splits PAC Doubleheader With Thiel

(CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky.) - The Thomas More College baseball team split a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) doubleheader today (Saturday, March 23, 2013) with Thiel College at Thomas More Field in Crestview Hills, Kentucky.  Thiel won game one, 5-4, but the Saints won the nightcap, 6-2.

With the split, the Saints are now 8-4 overall and 1-2 in the PAC and the Tomcats are 7-5 overall and 2-1 in the PAC.

In the first game of the day, the Tomcats scored three in the third and two in the fifth, while holding Thomas More to three in the second and one in the fifth for the 5-4 victory.

Freshman first baseman Donovan Pogue (Sharonville, Ohio/St. Xavier) led the team on the plate as he was two-for-two with a run batted-in and a run scored, while senior left fielder Brandon Nutini (Edgewood, Ky./Covington Catholic) was one-for-two with two RBI and a run scored.

Senior pitcher Paul Uhl (Cincinnati, Ohio/McNicholas) suffered the loss on the mound as he pitched four and a third innings and gave up five runs (four earned) on nine hits and struck out two.  Senior pitcher David Etscheid (Union, Ky./Ryle) pitched two and two-third innings of scorless relief and gave up two hits and struck out three.

In the second game, Thomas More scored one in the second, three in the third and two in the fifth, while holding Thiel to one in the second and one in the third for the 6-2 victory.

On the mound, sophomore pitcher Tim Baldrick (Cincinnati, Ohio/Elder) pitched all seven innings and to earn the win as he gave up two runs (one earned) on five hits and struck out two.

At the plate, junior designated hitter Travis Miller (Erlanger, Ky./St. Henry) was two-for-three with a home run, two RBI and two runs scored and junior third baseman Tyler Graber (Plain City, Ohio/Jonathan Alder) was two-for-three with a run scored.

Thomas More is scheduled to return to the diamond
