Titans Run Away From Cougars

Michael Polcyn recorded a hit in eight straight at-bats as UW-Oshkosh cruised to two wins over the University of Minn.-Morris on Thursday (March 21) in Fort Myers, Fla.

In the Titans' 13-1 opener victory, Polcyn went 5-for-5 with four RBI and three runs scored. Michael Swift contributed two triples as UW-Oshkosh captured the second contest, 12-1. It was the first meeting between the two schools since 1970.

Bobby Kachel also had a big day at the plate, totaling six RBI and five hits. His three-run homer during the third inning gave the Titans a 6-0 lead in the opener.

Polcyn slammed a two-run blast one inning later to make it 8-0. In the sixth frame, Kachel knocked a two-run double to left field.

UW-Oshkosh's (8-0) pitching also excelled, with James Lacy tossing four innings with one earned run for the victory. Peter Jewell followed with two scoreless frames, striking out two Cougars (1-6).

Jake Schmitz compiled two of the five hits by Minn.-Morris. Christian Korlath knocked in the lone run with his fourth-inning single.

Calvin Bowes allowed eight runs (five earned) in the first four innings for the loss.

The Titans put away the second contest with a three runs in the first inning and seven during the fourth. Swift tripled in the opening inning for a 3-0 cushion.

UW-Oshkosh banged out seven hits in the fourth, including two-run doubles from Brock Guetzke and Zac Peterson. Kachel capped the outburst with a RBI single that made it 11-0.

Minn.-Morris compiled just three hits – with one in each of the third, fourth and seventh innings. Schmitz hit a sacrifice fly during the third for his team's only score.

Chad Wyss fanned seven batters over five innings (one ER) for the win. Kyle Glaser allowed 10 hits and eight ER in the defeat.

The Titans will be challenged by Utica College (N.Y) and nationally ranked Johns Hopkins University (Md.) on Friday (March 22).
