BROCKTON, Mass. – Led by Will Barrack's (Lancaster, Va.) eight strikeout complete game and Matt Consiglio's (Southbury, Conn.) 4-for-4 with two RBI and two runs scored baseball got back on the winning track in a big way as they dominated the Lancers of Worcester State University by the final of 9-1 Thursday evening at Campanelli Stadium in the 2013 home opener for the Beacons.

UMass Boston, who will playing all their 2013 home games at Campanelli Stadium, which also serves as the home of the Brockton Rox, picked-up their first win in New England on the back of another standout performance by Barrack.  With the victory, UMass improved to 4-6 overall, while Worcester State University fell to 5-8.

Barrack, who has had a career week, did not disappoint in his New England debut fanning nine Worcester State batters.  In his last two starts, both of which are wins, the 6'5" Virginia native has combined for 24 strikeouts respectively.  His 16 K's last week in Florida earned him both Little East Conference and ECAC New England Pitcher of the Week honors.  He was also named to the National College Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) Pitcher of the Week honor roll for his near record breaking performance.

Not to be outdone Consiglio's hot bat fueled a Beacons offense which had been quiet for most of their spring trip to Florida.  UMB tacked two runs in each of the first two innings, before scoring a run in the fourth and the fifth frames, which at the time made a 6-0 ball game.  After the Lancers managed their lone run of the game in the top half of the sixth, UMB put-up a three spot in the eighth which all started with a double to left field by the Southbury, Connecticut native. 

In total the Beacons tacked on a combined 12 hits to improve the all-time series record with the Lancers to 14-14.  Worcester State threw four different pitchers at the Beacons with none of them able to contain the red hot bats.  Kuzio was handed his first loss of the year after allowing five runs, four earned, on seven hits through the first four innings of play.

Barrack's evening not only consisted of the eight strikeouts, but the big righty allowed just five hits, one for extra bases, and did not surrender a walk in all nine innings. 

Also having a solid day at the plate was Charles LaPaglia (Marshfield, Mass.) as he went 2-for-4 with a run scored.  Gerard Florentino (West Roxbury, Mass.) and Kurtis White (Nahant, Mass.) each picked-up an RBI in the win as Florentino went 1-for-4 with his lone hit a double in the first inning, while White finished 1-for-2 with a run scored as well. 

Baseball returns to action on Saturday when they travel to UMass Dartmouth for a noon Little East Conference doubleheader.
