ALBION, Mich. – Albion College improved to 6-0 against Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association rivals Friday by sweeping a doubleheader from Trine University by scores of 8-2 and 5-4 at Frank Joranko Field.
Albion and Hope College (4-0) are the only remaining unbeaten teams in league play. The Britons will look to continue its winning ways Saturday when it completes the four-game series with Trine with a 1 p.m. doubleheader at Jannen Field in Angola, Ind.
Albion never trailed in the doubleheader as it jumped out to 5-0 leads in both games.
In game one, Davin Montgomery produced RBI singles in the third and fourth innings and Ben Gehan came through with a fourth inning pinch-hit single that brought two runs home. Michael Fischbach drove in a run with a single in the seventh. Montgomery and Tony Cappelletty finished the game with two hits apiece.
Mike Schypinski improved to 3-0 on the mound with a complete game in game one. He yielded six hits and a walk. She struck out six.
Albion took advantage of four Trine errors in game two. Brendan Diamond scored twice and Eric Shimmel and Fischbach both produced two hits and a RBI.
Kyle Cassidy improved to 2-1 on the mound with the complete game in game two. He was touched up for seven hits and a walk. He struck out seven.
Cappelletty, Fischbach, and Shimmel all had three hits in the doubleheader.
