Box Score
FOREST GROVE – After managing just seven hits combined in both games on Friday, Pacific hammered out seven hits in a seven-run third inning and 17 hits for the game as the Boxers rolled to a 13-3 victory over Willamette in Northwest Conference baseball action at Chuck Bafaro Stadium.
Michael Arakaki (Sr., Mililani, Hawaii), Donnie Bradley (So., Beaverton, Ore.) and Charlie Gaff (Fr., Stockton, Calif.) all went 3 for 4 in the contest as the Boxers (8-16, 5-7 NWC) put together their best offensive performance since pounding out 19 hits against Lewis & Clark on Mar. 16. The effort helped make a winner out of Matt Delegato (Sr., Hillsboro, Ore.) for the fourth straight week.
At the start of the contest, however, it looked as if Willamette (11-16, 6-9 NWC) would simply pick up where they left off on Friday as they got three hits off of Delegato in the first inning. Brad Breier opened scoring when his double to left scored Tyson Giza and Hunter Gallant plated off a single from Matt Hirsch. Pacific halved the score in the second inning. Dan Jaffe (Jr., Las Vegas, Nev.) and Arakaki led off with singles, and Arakaki scored on a sacrifice fly by Bradley.
Logan Moen (Sr., Brier, Wash.) and Trux French (Sr., Kennewick, Wash.) led off the third with singles. Arakaki followed with a one-out single through the right side to score Moen and French scored on the same play on a Willamette throwing error. After Tasaka's sacrifice bunt, Gaff delivered a single that caromed off the wrist of Willamette Brandon Simon to score Arakaki.
Simon was forced to leave the game after he was hit, and that change seemingly opened the floodgates for the Boxers. Bradley greeted reliever Peter Davis with a bunt single. Anson Arakaki (Sr., Hilo, Hawaii) walked and the wild pitch on ball four allowed Gaff to score. Bradley then drew a throw on a potential double steal, but the throw flew down the left field line, which allowed both Bradley and Anson Arakaki to score. Walker Olis (Fr., Burlington, Wash.) added a double and scored on Moen's second hit of the inning before the Bearcats succeeded to finish things off.
Willamette took back one run in the fourth when Chinn single to lead off the inning and scored on a single up the middle by Giza.
Pacific was not done at the plate, scoring five more in the fifth. Anson Arakaki and Olis reached with walks, with Arakaki scoring on Moen's ground out. Olis scored on Jaffe's double to left center field, Jaffe plated on Tasaka's double to right while Tasaka and Michael Arakaki scored on the third double of the inning by Gaff.
Delegato needed to go just five innings to improve to 4-1 on the season, allowing three runs, two earned, on six hits with two walks and four strikeouts in five innings of work. Simon dropped to 3-3 with the loss, allowing five runs on nine hits with two walks in 2.2 innings. Willamette used a total of seven pitchers in the contest.
In addition to the trio of three-hit performances, Olis, Moen and Jaffe all finished with two hits. Willamette's seven hits were spread out between seven different batters.
Pacific returns to action on the road next weekend, playing a three-game NWC series at Whitman on Saturday and Sunday.
