NEW PALTZ, N.Y. – The State University of New York at New Paltz baseball team (9-12, 6-4 SUNYAC) won both ends of Saturday's State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) doubleheader against SUNY Oswego (10-9, 3-4 SUNYAC) to complete the weekend sweep at Loren Campbell Memorial Field. The Hawks took a 10-1 decision in game one, and then defeated the Lakers in the nightcap, 6-3.

The Hawk bats were alive on Saturday, as they totaled 23 hits across the doubleheader. Senior left fielder Anthony Repetto (North Babylon, N.Y./North Babylon) went 5-for-6 on the day with three runs and an RBI, while senior first baseman Thomas Pinnola (North Babylon, N.Y./North Babylon) went 3-for-6 with a single, double and a two-run home run. Senior third baseman Matt Prescia (Oakdale, N.Y./Connetquot) batted 4-for-8 on the day, scoring five times and adding two RBI.

Senior starting pitcher Chris Chismar (Lindenhurst, N.Y./Lindenhurst) got himself into trouble in the top of the first in game one. After hitting the first batter with a pitch, Chismar allowed back-to-back singles to load the bases without an out. Oswego right fielder Michael Mascari flew out to right, allowing left fielder Ed Charles to score from third and give the Lakers the lead. After hitting another batter to load the bases again, Chismar escaped the inning after a pop up and fly out.

The Hawks got off to a quick start in their first at bat of the game, as senior center fielder Matt Carr (Westbury, N.Y./Long Island Lutheran) tripled to lead off the inning. Later, Prescia singled through the right side to score Carr and tie the game. With two outs and runners on second and third, junior designated hitter David Lostaglio (Milton, N.Y./Marlboro Central) hit a long fly ball to right, which went off the right fielder's glove and dropped in, allowing two runs to score and giving the Hawks an early 3-1 lead.

New Paltz put together another big rally in the second to improve upon its lead. With junior second baseman Kenny Gentile (Lindenhurst, N.Y./Lindenhurst) on first, Carr doubled down the right field line to put runners on second and third. Sophomore right fielder Richard Guido (Ulster Park, N.Y./Kingston) flew out to right in the next at bat, but it was long enough for Gentile to score from third. Repetto followed with a double down the right field line to score Carr, and then Prescia doubled in Repetto.

Pinnola kept the rally going with an RBI single that plated Prescia from second. Lostaglio followed with a triple to deep center field that scored Pinnola to cap off a five-run inning for the Hawks. New Paltz scored its next run in the fourth on another Lostaglio triple that brought Prescia around to score.

In a sixth inning that featured five pinch hitters for the Hawks, freshman catcher Andrew DiNardo (Hopewell Junction, N.Y./John Jay) stroked an RBI single to left center that scored Prescia for the fourth time in the opener.

Chismar earned the win in game one after tossing six innings and allowing just the single run in the first inning. He scattered five hits and did not walk a batter while striking out seven on the afternoon. Oswego starter James McKenna shouldered the loss in the front end of the doubleheader after going just 1.2 innings and allowed eight runs (six earned).

Lostaglio went 2-for-3 in the win, reaching third base in each of his three at bats on two triples and an error. He provided two RBI for the Hawks. Prescia went 3-for-4 with two doubles and a pair of RBI, while Carr batted 2-for-4 with two runs scored.

Shortstop Mike McMullen led the Lakers in game one, going 2-for-3 in the loss. Mascari knocked in the only run on a sacrifice fly in a 0-for-1 effort, while Charles scored a run in a 1-for-3 outing.

Game two began much like game one, as the Lakers got on the board in the first inning once again. Third baseman Brian Hamilton singled in second baseman Matt Stark from second to give Oswego the lead. Oswego struck again in the second, scoring another run on center fielder Scott Buniak's RBI double to take a two-run lead.

The Hawks answered with another big second inning to take the lead. After loading the bases without an out, the Hawks hit three-straight singles through the left side to score three runs. Carr then grounded into a double play, but another run was able to come across to give the Hawks a 4-2 lead.

Oswego was able to cut the deficit to one in the fifth when McMullen singled in Buniak, but that was the last run that the Lakers would score on the afternoon.

The Hawks added to their lead in the seventh when Pinnola blasted his first home run of the season to left field that also scored Repetto to give the Hawks a 6-3 lead. The home run was the first of the season for New Paltz and Pinnola's first since the 2010 campaign.

Junior starting pitcher Andrew Grann (Oceanside, N.Y./Oceanside) picked up his third win of the season in the doubleheader finale, going six innings and yielding three runs (two earned). He allowed six hits and walked one batter while striking out six in the victory. Oswego starter Jon Stevens took the loss in the nightcap, going just two innings and allowing four earned runs on seven hits.

Pinnola went 2-for-3 with a double, home run, two runs and two RBI, while Repetto batted 3-for-4 and scored a run. Buniak led the Lakers with a 2-for-4 outing in game two, scoring a run and adding an RBI.

The Hawks return to action on Tuesday, April 9, as they play host to Fairleigh Dickinson-College at Florham in a non-conference matchup. First pitch is slated for 4 p.m. from Loren Campbell Memorial Field.
