Oxy baseball loses first game at Redlands

REDLANDS — Logan Allen (Atascadero) went 3 for 4, Riley Smith (Bellevue, Wash.) went 2 for 4 with an RBI and the Occidental College baseball team had a 2-1 lead through 6.5 innings.

But Redlands (16-11, 12-8 SCIAC) scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh, beating the Tigers 4-2 in the second game of a three game series, and the first of a doubleheader at Redlands on Saturday.

Jason Henning hit an RBI-triple, Alex Sheiwe had an RBI-single and Sean McMillan scored on a balk during Redlands' big inning.

It's the first game that Oxy head coach Luke Wetmore has lost against his alma mater. Wetmore, who played baseball and football for Redlands, is now 5-1 against the Bulldogs.

Scott Hong (Los Angeles) started the game for the Tigers (19-9, 10-7 SCIAC), giving up just one run, with five strikeouts, in six innings pitched.

Kyle Hart pitched 7.1 innings to earn the win and Josh Mackler picked up the save for the Bulldogs.

Josh Bendig (Valencia) was charged with the loss.

A.J. Libunao (Huntington Beach) was 1 for 3 with a run scored and Alec Strain (Sacramento) went 1 for 4 with a run scored for Oxy.

The Tigers and Bulldogs finish the thee-game series in their final game at 2 p.m. on Saturday.
