Baseball Defeats Yeshiva in Doubleheader (20-3, 12-1), Win Streak at Six

The Baruch College Bearcats arew on a six-game winning streak after defeating the Maccabees of Yeshiva University in a CUNYAC doubleheader on Sunday afternoon at Taft High School in the Bronx.

Yeshiva and the Stevens Institute of Technology are associate members in CUNYAC in the sport of baseball. Their inclusion, along with Baruch, CCNY, John Jay, Lehman and Staten Island, is expected to give the conference tournament champion an automatic berth to the NCAA Tournament starting in 2014.

The NCAA requires a minimum of seven conference schools playing together for at least three years to be recognized to receive an automatic berth.

The Bearcats won today with scores of 20-3 and 12-1 to raise their record to 11-8 overall and 6-0 in the CUNYAC. The Maccabees drop to 2-12 overall and 1-7 in the CUNYAC.

In the first game, the visiting Bearcats pounded out 19 hits to score a season-high 20 runs.


Jasdeep Buttarstarred with a 5-for-6 (2 doubles) batting performance with four RBI and four runs scored. Nicholas Pomo-Romanand Eric Ulino had three hits each.

Keith Ezersky, John Yuksekoll and Pomo-Roman scored three runs each in a busy game on the base paths for the Bearcats.

Andrew Lizardi gets the pitching victory with a line of six innings, one earned run, no walks and nine strikeouts.

Yeshiva committed nine errors and scored their three runs on five total hits.

In the second game, Yeshiva scored first, but the Bearcats scored the next 12, including six runs in the fourth inning, for the 12-1 victory.

Buttar, Pimo-Roman and Ulino had two hits each, while
Connor Hensonearns the victory with a line of six innings, four hits, one unearned run, and seven strikeouts.

The Bearcats will return to action on Tuesday, April 9, with a rescheduled 3:30 pm non-conference game at William Paterson University in Wayne, New Jersey. The two teams were scheduled to play earlier this season, but it was postponed by cold weather.
