Thomas More Completes Sweep of Bethany With a 7-5 Win

(BETHANY, W.Va.) - The Thomas More College baseball team complete a three-game Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) series sweep of Bethany College today (Sunday, April 7, 2013) with a 7-5 victory at Bethany Park in Bethany, West Virginia.

With the win, the Saints improve to 14-6 overall and 6-3 in the PAC and the Bison fall to 3-14 overall and 1-10 in the PAC.

Thomas More scored four runs in the first, one in the third and two in the fourth, while holding Bethany to two runs in the third, two in the fifth and one in the ninth for the 7-5 victory.

Senior pitcher Grant Lewis (Mason, Ohio/Mason) earned the win as he pitched five innings and gave up four runs (three earned) on nine hits and struck out four. Junior pitcher Andy Roenker (Taylor Mill, Ky./Holy Cross) pitched three innings of relief and gave up only one hit, while striking out two. Senior pitcher David Etscheid (Union, Ky./Ryle) earned the save as he pitched the ninth inning and gave up one run (earned) on three hits and struck out one.

Junior center fielder Cody Makin (Cincinnati, Ohio/Elder) led the team at the plate as he was two-for-four with a double and three runs batted-in. Senior right fielder Ryan Darner (Burlington, Ky./Covington Catholic) was two-for-four with two runs scored and junior second baseman Tyler Graber (Plain City, Ohio/Jonathan Alder) was two-for-two with two RBI.

Thomas More returns to action on Tuesday (April 9) when it travels to Springfield, Ohio to play Wittenberg University. First pitch of the non-conference game is scheduled for 6 p.m.
