Thomas Takes Two from Hornets, Completes Weekend Sweep

WATERVILLE, ME- Thomas went extra innings to get a 7-6 win over Lyndon State in game one, and cruised to 7-1 win in game two and completed a sweep over the Hornets on Sunday afternoon in a North Atlantic Conference (NAC) baseball doubleheader. The Terriers improve to 5-11, while Lyndon drops to 0-12.

GAME ONE

The Terriers were able to overcome an early first-inning deficit and pick up a 7-6 win in nine innings. Thomas also fell behind 6-4 in the eighth inning but rallied for two in the bottom half and would walk-off with the win in the following inning.

Jeffrey Richardson (Rochester, N.H.) keyed the victory in game one for Thomas as he finished with three hits and a walk, while scoring two runs and driving in three. Thomas Cameron (Jackson, Maine) and Dillon Emerson (Concord, N.H.) each had a pair of hits to propel the victory, with Emerson driving in two.

Starting pitcher James McLamb (Livermore Falls, Maine) overcame a tough three-run first inning to shut out the Hornets for the next 4 1/3 innings, while also compiling seven strikeouts. Isiah Fleming (Fairfield, Maine) was the winning pitcher as he threw 2 1/3 innings in relief, striking out three.

Lyndon was lead at the plate by Robert Trucott (Sheffield, Vt.) who had four hits with one run batted in. Starting pitcher Sam Matthews (St. Johnsbury, Vt.) went seven innings giving up four earned runs while striking out seven. Corey Wells (Barre, Vt.) picked up the loss for the Hornets when Nik Beeson (Manchester, N.H.) hit a tough ball to short with the bases loaded that was unable to be played.

GAME TWO

Thomas would get off to a hot start with a four-run first inning and would not look back as they would take down the Hornets 7-1 in game two.

Lyndon would strike first when Dylan Newton (St. Albans, Vt.) doubled to right field to drive in first run of the game in the first inning. The Terriers would answer the bell with four runs of their own in the bottom half, capped off by a two-run homerun by Cody Vigue (Skowhegan, Maine).

Thomas would add runs in the fifth and sixth to expand the lead and close out the game to complete the sweep of the doubleheader. Vigue led the Terriers with two hits and runs batted in. Five other players also chipped in with hits for Thomas.

Tim Locke (Waterville, Maine) started the game but went only two due to some discomfort. Dylan McNally (Moose River, Maine) relieved him and went three innings allowing only one hit, while striking out two. Cameron and Vigue each threw a scoreless inning of relief.

Newton and Ian Sackett (Lyndonville, Vt.) led the Hornets at the plate with a double each. Zachary Hatin (Colchester, Vt.) started and went the full six innings on the mound for Lyndon.

Thomas will take to the road for its next game, as they travel to Orono to face off against the Maine Black Bears in a non-conference meeting on April 9 at 5pm.
