Offense Leads Rams Past Maritime

Throggs Neck, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State baseball team scored double-digit runs in each game of the doubleheader as they earned a sweep over Maritime on Sunday afternoon. The Rams improved 14-9 overall and 7-1 in the conference, while the Privateers fell to 7-16, 1-5.

In game one, Farmingdale State scored three runs in the first and added five in the third inning to quickly open up an 8-0 advantage. After the Rams took a 10-0 lead in the fourth, Maritime scored their first run of the game in the bottom half of the inning. A five run fifth inning put Farmingdale State on top 15-1 en route to the 16-9 road victory.

Junior designated hitter Daniel Paccione (Commack, N.Y.) was 2-for-3 with a home run, 3 RBI and a pair of runs scored, while sophomore shortstop Anthony Alvino (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) was 3-for-3 with 3 RBI and three runs scored. Freshman first baseman Dalton McCarthy (Manorville, N.Y.) had two hits, two runs scored and an RBI, while sophomore left fielder Nick Ventricelli (Woodbury, N.Y.) was 2-for-3 with 2 RBI and a run scored.

In the second game, the Privateers took a 3-0 lead through the first three innings. In the top of the fourth, a 2 RBI single down the left field line by Paccione cut the Rams' deficit to 3-2.

Trailing 4-2 in the top of the fifth, Alvino hit an RBI double to right field to pull Farmingdale State within one, 4-3. The Rams went ahead 5-4 after a one out 2 RBI single up the middle by senior third baseman Ron Remi (Massapequa, N.Y.).

Farmingdale State added three runs in the sixth and two in the seventh to earn a 10-6 victory in game two.

Remi was 3-for-4 with a run scored a two runs batted in, while sophomore second baseman Tom Rydzewski (Franklin Square, N.Y.) was 3-for-5 at the plate with a pair of runs scored. Paccione had three hits, including his second home run of the day and had 4 RBI and two runs scored.

The Rams next will host New Jersey City in a non-conference 9-inning game on Tuesday, April 9th at 7:00 p.m.
