Martinez Earns Win as Rams Defeat NJCU

Farmingdale, N.Y - Freshman pitcher Kevin Martinez (Glen Cove, N.Y.) earned his first win of the season after throwing five innings allowing no earned runs and four hits in Farmingdale State's 9-2 victory over New Jersey City University.

Trailing 1-0 in the bottom of the third, senior left fielder David Zilnicki (Riverhead, N.Y.) tied the game at 1-1 with an RBI single up the middle. Zilnicki stole second and advanced to third base on an Anthony Alvino (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) single, before scoring on a double steal to put the Rams (15-9) ahead 2-1.

Farmingdale State increased their lead to 3-1 in the sixth on an infield single by junior center fielder Edward Bergmann (East Meadow, N.Y.) which scored Daniel Paccione (Commack, N.Y.). A Brendan Sullivan (Plainview, N.Y.) RBI triple to left center and a Mike Scarlato (Holbrook, N.Y.) RBI single to right center gave the Rams a 5-1 advantage.

Farmingdale State added four runs in the final two innings as they earned the 9-2 non-conference win.

Paccione was 3-for-5 with a run scored and an RBI, while Alvino had a pair of hits and a run scored. Bergmann and Zilnicki each had two hits, a run scored and an RBI for the Rams.

Farmigndale State next will travel to St. Joseph's for a Skyline doubleheader on Saturday, April 13th at noon.
