(GROVE CITY, Pa.) - Junior third baseman Travis Miller (Erlanger, Ky./St. Henry) went three-for-five at the plate as the Thomas More College baseball team defeated Grove City College, 6-3, today (Friday, April 12, 2013) in a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) game at R.J. Behringer Field in Grove City, Pennsylvania.
With the win, the Saints improve to 16-6 overall and 8-3 in the PAC and the Wolverines fall to 1-12 overall and 0-7 in the PAC.
Thomas More scored three runs in the third, one the sixth and two in the seventh and held Grove City to two runs in the third and one in the sixth for the 6-3 victory.
Miller had home run, a double, two runs batted-in and two runs scored with his three-for-five appearance. Two other Saints had multiple hits in the game as senior right fielder Ryan Darner (Burlington, Ky./Covington Catholic) was three-for-five with two runs scored and junior second baseman Tyler Graber (Plain City, Ohio/Johnathan Alder) was two-for-two with a run scored.
Senior pitcher Paul Uhl (Cincinnati, Ohio/McNicholas) earned a no-decision as he pitched three and a third innings and gave up two runs (both earned) on four hits and struck out three. Junior pitcher Andy Roenker (Taylor Mill, Ky./Holy Cross) earned the win as he pitched four and two-third innings of relief and gave up one run (earned) on five hits and struck out one. Senior pitcher David Etscheid (Union, Ky./Ryle) earned his fifth save of the season as he pitched one inning and didn't allow a hit or run, while striking out one.
The two teams will close out the three-game PAC series tomorrow with a doubleheader at R.J. Behringer Field. First pitch is scheduled for 12 p.m.
