OLIVET, Mich. – Senior co-captain Ross Hall did everything he could to prevent the Albion College baseball team from being swept at Olivet College Sunday – scattering two earned runs on six hits over six innings – but the offense managed just three hits as the Britons suffered a 3-0 setback in game two.
The second game was scoreless until Olivet scored twice in the fourth. The Comets produced an infield single and a double with two out in the frame.
Hall retired the first two batters in the sixth inning, but consecutive walks led extended the inning and a single scored the runner from second base.
Albion never advanced a runner past second base. B.J. Konkle laced a double to leadoff the seventh inning. The Britons also got runners to second base in the second and third innings.
Albion fell behind 8-0 early and it lost game one, 17-3. Troy Bodtke delivered a sacrifice fly and Thomas Cox drove in a run with a ground out as Albion plated two runs in the second inning.
Albion loaded the bases in the fourth as Alex Schumaker doubled, Bodtke walked and Cox singled. The Britons plated only one run, however, as a double play thwarted a big inning.
Albion is scheduled to host Siena Heights Tuesday for a non-league game. The Britons begin a four-game series against Hope College with a home doubleheader at 2 p.m. Friday.
