Baruch Scores Three Runs in 9th Inning to Earn Exciting 6-5 Comeback Victory Over NJCU

The Bearcats rallied in their final at-bat with three runs to defeat the Gothic Knights from New Jersey City University, 6-5, in a non-conference game played on Tuesday afternoon at Bronx Community College.

With the result, the Bearcats improve to 14-10 overall, while the Gothic Knights drop to 14-15.

The Bearcats jumped out to a 3-0 lead. They scored two runs in the fourth inning on RBI singles by
Eric Ulinoand Daniel Arango. They scored their third run an inning later on an RBI ground out by Nicholas Pomo-Romanto bring home Jasdeep Buttar.

The visiting Gothic Knights, who upset #1-ranked Kean over the past weekend, scored twice in the fifth and three more in the sixth to lead 5-3 on various fielding errors by the Bearcats.

The Bearcats would later score three runs in the bottom of the ninth with no outs. Buttar, who batted 4-for-5 with three doubles, smacked one of his doubles for two RBI to tie the game at 5.

Pomo-Roman stepped up to the plate and hit an RBI single to bring home Buttar to clinch the 6-5 win as the bench spilled out on to the field to celebrate the exciting comeback victory.


Andrew Lizardistarted and pitched a solid game (6IP, 5R, 1ER, 2B, 7K). Paul Perezcame in relief in the seventh inning to earn his fifth win (3IP, 2H, 2K) of the season.

Ulino finished a solid game at the plate, batting 3-for-4, with an RBI and run scored against the opponent from the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC).

The baseball team will hit the road on Thursday, April 18 for a 3:30 pm non-conference game at SUNY-Old Westbury on Long Island.
