SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The Nichols College baseball team absorbed a 16-0 loss to host Springfield in a non-conference tilt on Tuesday.

First-year Benjamin Harrow (North Reading, Mass.) went 2-for-4 at the leadoff spot while senior John Micciche (Holbrook, Mass.) also had a 2-for-4 day. Junior Nick Shaw (Plymouth, Mass.) came off the bench to bat 2-for-3 while classmate Shayne McNally (Auburn, Mass.) had a double for the Bison.

Senior Chris Bruno (Darien, Conn.) shouldered the loss (0-1) as he was tagged with eight runs – four earned – on 11 hits in the first four frames. Junior Nick Croteau (Fitchburg, Mass.) accounted for the balance of the Pride runs over two and a third innings. Rookie Ryan Pichel (Littleton, Mass.) tossed a scoreless one and two-thirds for Nichols.

Springfield scored at least two runs in all but the third and eighth as it improved to 11-15. Of the eight runners left on base by the Bison five were stranded in scoring position.

Nichols (4-23) travels to Lasell for a 7:00 p.m. non-conference game on Thursday. Springfield heads to Elms tomorrow night for a 7:30 p.m. first pitch.
