OSWEGO, N.Y. – By completing the regular season sweep over Fredonia (16-11, 7-8 SUNYAC) with a 3-1 victory Sunday afternoon, the Oswego State baseball team (16-12, 9-6) solidified a spot in the 2013 SUNYAC Tournament for the first time in over a decade. The Lakers sit comfortably in third place in the conference standings behind Cortland (26-8, 12-3) and New Paltz 15-14, 11-6) with three conference games remaining at last-place Plattsburgh (9-20, 4-11) next weekend.

Jon Stevens (Sr., Chittenango, N.Y.) threw a gem for the Lakers, allowing only one unearned run in the top of the fifth on the way to his sixth career complete game.

Oswego State took the early lead in the bottom of the second after Andrew Lazzaro (Sr., Oswego, N.Y.) singled home Scott Buniak (Jr., Clifton Park, N.Y.).  Fredonia tied the game in the fifth before Michael Mascari (Jr., Syracuse, N.Y.) hit a towering double over the right fielder's head to bring home Tyler Baker (Jr., Hannibal, N.Y.) and Brian Hamilton (So., Liverpool, N.Y.) before getting tagged out at third to end the sixth inning.  Stevens retired 12 of the 14 batters faced in the final four innings to lead Oswego State to victory.

Stevens improved to 3-2 on the year with the win, while giving up only five hits and striking out three batters.  Blue Devil starter Zachary Jordon fell to 5-1, allowing three runs on eight hits in the complete-game loss.

The Lakers next face the Wildcats of Cazenovia in a non-conference doubleheader Tuesday at Laker Baseball Field.  The first game is scheduled to begin at noon.
