Albion Salvages Split With Hope

ALBION, Mich. – Spencer Bonofiglio and Adam Mazza drove in two runs apiece and Kyle Cassidypitched six effective innings as Albion College gained a split of its Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association baseball doubleheader with Hope College with an 11-8 victory in game two.

Albion sent all nine batters to the plate in the first and third innings. The Britons scored four times in the first and five times in the third to forge a 9-1 lead. Mazza delivered a two-run single in the third, while Bonofiglio belted RBI singles in the first and sixth.

Mazza picked up three of Albion's 10 hits. Bonofiglio and Thomas Cox picked up two hits apiece.

Cassidy, who was making his first start since leaving the second game of the April 6 doubleheader with Adrian with an arm injury, featured a lively fastball. He scattered four runs on nine hits and two walks.

Hope was a 6-0 winner in game one. Albion left the bases loaded in the second inning and it failed to advance a runner past first base the rest of the game.

Albion is scheduled to travel to Adrian Tuesday afternoon for a non-league date with Siena Heights University.
