#19 RAMAPO POUNDS OUT 19 HITS IN 13-6 WIN

Mahwah, NJ: The #19 Ramapo College baseball team pounded out 19 hits in a 13-6 non-conference win over Purchase College today at Jeff Maund Field. The Roadrunners improve to 23-8-1 overall while the Panthers fall to 20-14.

Purchase got on the board first with two runs in the top of the first inning before Ramapo came back to tie the game at two in the bottom half of the inning. Joe Venturino walked to lead off and stole second base before John Capuano ripped a single to center allowing Venturino to score. Dave Jacob was then hit by a pitch before the bases were loaded with two outs. Brandon Berger was hit by a pitch, allowing Capuano to touch home plate with the game tying run, 2-2.

Ramapo took a 3-2 lead in the second on Christian Spurr's RBI single to center field before the Panthers scored two runs in the third to take a 4-3 lead. The Roadrunners would come back to score five runs in the fifth inning on five hits to take the lead for good, 8-4. Kevin Kelly poked a single through the infield allowing Chris Werr to score from third base before Kevin Case put down a squeeze bunt single as Brandon Berger raced home to touch home plate. Venturino then hit a single to center field for an RBI before Dave Jacob ripped a double to left field, plating two RBI of his own for the lead.

The Roadrunners scored two more runs in the sixth inning as Spurr scored on a wild pitch and Kelly drove home Werr with a double to left field, 10-4. Ramapo added three runs on four hits in the seventh inning, extending their lead to 13-4 before Purchase added two runs in the eighth inning. That is all the Roadrunners would allow as they came away with a 13-6 victory.

Jacob led the team at the plate (2-2) with a triple, double, one run scored and two RBI. While Spurr was 3-5 with two RBI and Venturino was 3-5 with four runs scored and one RBI.

Mark Doyle (3-0) earned the win in relief, striking out three and walking one while scattering one hit over three innings of work.

The Roadrunners return to action on Thursday when they travel to NJAC rival New Jersey City University at 3:30pm.
