AMSTERDAM, N.Y. – Senior starting pitcher Chris Chismar (Lindenhurst, N.Y./Lindenhurst) and junior pitcherAndrew Grann (Oceanside, N.Y./Oceanside) united for 12 strikeouts and just three hits allowed to lead the State University of New York at New Paltz baseball team (16-15, 12-6 SUNYAC) to a 1-0 shutout victory over SUNY Oneonta (10-23, 5-10 SUNYAC) in the Hawks' final State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) matchup of the season on Wednesday. Senior catcher Matt Kaldon (Montgomery, N.Y./Valley Central) knocked in the winning run in the top of the ninth in a contest that clinched the No. 2 seed in the 2013 SUNYAC Baseball Championship Tournament for the Hawks.

Grann earned the win after tossing 3.2 scoreless innings in relief. He struck out three batters and allowed just two hits. Chismar saw his no-hit bid end with one out in the sixth inning after yielding a double to Oneonta shortstop Ivan Plata. He lasted 5.1 innings, allowing just the one hit and fanning nine Red Dragon batters.

Neither team could buy a run for the first eight frames until the Hawks found some magic in the ninth. With one away, senior first baseman Thomas Pinnola (North Babylon, N.Y./North Babylon) singled for just the fourth base hit of the evening for the Hawks. After senior third baseman Matt Prescia (Oakdale, N.Y./Connetquot) flied out to center for the second out, junior designated hitter David Lostaglio (Milton, N.Y./Marlboro Central) reached base on an error by the second baseman to keep the inning alive. Kaldon took advantage in the next at bat, singling to center to score Pinnola for the only run of the game.

No pitcher allowed an earned run in Wednesday's nail biter. Oneonta starter Benji Parkes allowed one unearned run in 8.2 innings of work, consequently being shouldered with the loss. Jim Hegmann relieved him for the final out in the top of the ninth.

Kaldon had the only RBI of the game in a 1-for-4 effort. Pinnola went 1-for-3 with a run scored, while senior center fielder Matt Carr (Westbury, N.Y./Long Island Lutheran) also batted 1-for-3 with a stolen base.

Oneonta's Chris Orlando was the only hitter in Wednesday's contest to pick up multiple hits, going 2-for-4 with a double. Plata had the only other hit for the Red Dragons.

The Hawks conclude the regular season with a doubleheader at Ithaca College on Saturday, April 27. First pitch is slated for 1 p.m. The SUNYAC Tournament follows the next weekend with the opening matchups taking place on Friday, May 3. First round matchups are yet to be determined.
