Albion Eliminated From MIAA Tournament Contention

ALBION, Mich. – The Albion College baseball team was eliminated from contention for the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Tournament with 18-0 and 5-2 losses to Calvin College at Frank Joranko Field.

Albion waited until the bottom of the seventh of game two to score. Spencer Bonofiglio hit a RBI double to the left-center gap and Eric Shimmel drove in a run on a ground out.

Davin Montgomery collected four of Albion's 12 hits in the doubleheader. Shimmel and Kyle Kowal finished the day with two hits apiece.

Kyle Cassidy, Albion's starting pitcher in game two, allowed only one earned run. He allowed eight hits and a walk while striking out four.

Ben Wohl proved to be a tough batter for the Albion pitchers to retire. The Calvin second baseman went 5-for-6 with a walk, a RBI and three runs scored. Grant Van Putten and Jalen Bouma delivered three hits apiece for the Knights.

Albion, 14-21 overall and 10-14 against MIAA rivals, will meet Alma College in its final league series of the season. The series begins with a 2 p.m. Friday doubleheader at Albion's Frank Joranko Field.
