Tim Kuzniar homered and had four hits and four RBI on the day and two UST players extended long hitting streaks as the No. 4-ranked Tommies swept St. Olaf 8-0 and 16-1 in Sunday's conference baseball twinbill at Koch Diamond.
St. Thomas (22-4 overall, 10-0 MIAC) has won 33 in a row on its home field and 17 of the last 18 this season. The Tommies, who had 26 hits, have scored 80 runs in its 6-0 MIAC run since Thursday.
Ben Podobinski had four hits on the day and extended his hitting streak to 17 games. Tyler Peterson had three hits and now has a 16-game hitting streak.
Four Tommie pitchers had to battle through jams but stranded 21 St. Olaf runners on the day. They also combined for 17 strikeouts.
In the opener, sophomore Colin Wendinger threw six shutout inning and fanned five as he allowed three hits and three walks. He starnded two on base in four of the first five innings.
In game two, junior Zach Franz worked into the seventh inning. He lost his shutout with a leadoff home run in the sixth inning. He fanned nine and walked three.
Ryan Gerber ripped a two-run homer in game two. Dylan Thomas had two triples in game one.
St. Thomas is home Tuesday to play a 2:30 p.m. twinbill against Concordia-Moorhead.
