Keystone Advances to CSAC Championship Game With Win Over Neumann

Boyertown, PA – Keystone College advanced to the championship game of Colonial States Athletic Conference Baseball Tournament on Saturday with a 14-4 victory over Neumann University, the Giants 13th consecutive win.  Top-seeded Keystone, who is currently ranked 12th in the nation, improve to 32-7 on the season and will play for their fifth-straight CSAC title on Sunday afternoon at 1:00 p.m. at Bear Stadium in Boyertown, PA.
 
The Giants enter Championship Sunday undefeated in the double-elimination tournament.  Keystone will play the winner of Saturday night's elimination game between Neumann and the winner of this afternoon's other elimination contest between Gwynedd-Mercy and Centenary. 
 
Neumann (28-12), the second seed in this year's tournament, jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning with a pair of unearned runs.  Following a Keystone error, Matt Sheneman singled home Buddy Elgin before Bill Pace crossed the plate on a passed ball against the Giants.
 
Keystone used a big fourth inning, scoring six runs on five hits while sending 12 batters to the plate, to claim a 6-2 lead.  Gabriel Ramirez (San Juan, Puerto Rico/Perkiomen School) scored on a Ricky Riscica (Greenwich, CT/Greenwich) single to get the Giants on the board before a sacrifice fly by Lymbel Guerrero (Lynn, MA/Lynn Classical) plated Gabriel Molina (Bronx, NY/James Monroe) to tie the game.  Austin Straub (Manlius, NY/Fayetteville-Manlius) drew a bases loaded walk to that allowed Riscica to walk home with the go-ahead run before Tyler Gurman (Bronx, NY/Lehman) delivered a two-run single to left-center.  Keystone scored their sixth run of the inning when Straub touched home after the Knights' pitcher was called for a balk.
 
Neumann got a pair of runs back in the top of the fifth inning as Jarad Carney doubled home Joey Armata before coming around to score on a wild pitch, but Keystone responded with four runs in the home half of the inning to build a 10-4 advantage.
 
Riscica scored on a bunt by Kevin Catherina (Ridgefield, NJ/St. Mary (Rutherford)) before Gurman drove in his third run of the game with a base hit to score Miquel Castano (Miami, FL/Miami Springs).  Molina and Rick McLaughlin (Hamilton, NJ/Steinert) then added RBI singles to score Straub and Gurman, respectively.
 
The Giants added a pair of runs in the sixth inning as Straub singled home Catherina before Gaston Rojas (Carmel, NY/Carmel) scored on a wild pitch. 
 
Guerrero closed out the scoring in style in the home seventh, blasting a two-run home run for his eighth round-tripper of the season and second in as many days.
 
Rob Rogers (Islip, NY/Islip) improved to 8-2 on the season on the mound for Keystone after tossing eight solid innings, striking out nine batters while scattering seven hits and walking two.  Zachary Duffy (Rockville Center, NY/Oceanside) closed out the game with a scoreless ninth inning
 
Catherina went 4-5 with and RBI and two runs scored out of the leadoff spot to pace Keystone's offense while Gurman had two hits and three RBIs.  Guerrero drove in three runs on the day while McLaughlin and Riscica collected a pair of hits each, with Riscica scoring three runs in the win.
 
Knights' starter Mike Dicken suffered the loss to fall to 6-2 on the year after allowing six runs on eight hits and three walks in 3.2 innings on the hill.  Neumann used a total of six pitchers on the day and allowed 15 hits and nine walks on the day. 
 
Pace and Will Flores had two hits apiece to lead Neumann's offense while Sheneman and Carney collected RBIs in the loss.
