OSWEGO, N.Y. – The Oswego State baseball team (27-15) used an early lead and timely hitting to take both games of a doubleheader from Utica (6-28), 6-1 and 4-2. As a result of the victories, the Lakers set a new program record for wins in a season at 27. The previous record was 26 since in 1982.

Oswego State jumped out to an early 5-0 lead in the bottom of the first in game one, and never looked back.  Mike Stark (Sr., Rochester, N.Y.) led off the inning with a single followed by John Rauseo (So., Mattituck, N.Y.) reaching on an error by the Pioneer third baseman.  Mike McMullen (Jr., Syracuse, N.Y.) singled home Stark, and Tim Smith (Jr., Auburn, N.Y.) brought home Rauseo on a sacrifice fly.  McMullen scored on a wild pitch, Brian Hamilton (So., Liverpool, N.Y.) came home on a single to left field by Jordan Giller (Fr., Toronto, Ont.), and Giller came around to score after Stark was hit by a pitch for a 5-0 Oswego State lead after one inning.

Angel Zapata scored on a sacrifice fly hit by Benjamin Hobaica to give Utica it's only run of the game in the fifth inning.  Rauseo roped a single down the left field line to score Alex Jurczynski (Sr., Schenectady, N.Y.) and give the Lakers the 6-1 lead.  Cody LaFlamme (Fr., Eagle Bridge, N.Y.) and Pat Brown (Jr., Liverpool, N.Y.) combined for two scoreless innings to close out the game for Oswego State

Stark and McMullen each had two hits, an RBI, and a run for the Lakers.  Miles Kelly (Fr., Clifton Park, N.Y.) earned his second win of the season after going four innings, surrendering just one hit and striking out three.  Alec Choleva took the loss for Utica, allowing five runs (three earned) in five innings of work.

The Pioneers got on the scoreboard in game two in the first, but Oswego State responded in the second when Smith scored on a sacrifice fly to right field by Andrew Lazzaro (Sr., Oswego, N.Y.) to even the game at 1-1.  Utica added another run in the fifth off Laker starter James McKenna (Jr., Bohemia, N.Y.) to pull ahead and put pressure on the Pioneers.

Oswego State responded with three huge runs in the bottom half of the frame.  A Scott Buniak (Jr., Clifton Park, N.Y.) single to the opposite field plated Dylan Parmenter (Sr., Bennington, VT), and Ed Charles (Sr., Auburn, N.Y.) and Buniak scored later in the inning on a pair of sacrifice flies by McMullen and Lazzaro, respectively, to take the 4-2 advantage heading into the final two innings.  Giller came on in relief to pitch two flawless innings and pick up the six-out save.

Charles and Parmenter had two hits and a run apiece for the Lakers.  McKenna earned the win to go to 5-2 for the year, throwing five innings scattering seven hits and giving up two runs.  Joshua Webb was hit with the loss, allowing four runs on five hits and four walks.
