BALDINI LEADS RAMAPO IN 3-1 WIN OVER JOHNS HOPKINS

Moosic, PA: The #6 Ramapo College baseball team (30-15-1) advanced in the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional with a, 3-1 win over #5 Johns Hopkins University (37-10).

The Roadrunners advance to play host #3 Misericordia University tonight at 7:45pm in an elimination game. Ramapo defeated Misericordia in the opening round, 4-0.

Ramapo got on the board in the third inning. Junior John Capuano walked and stole second before senior Anthony Vinci drove him home with a hard hit single to center field, 1-0.

In the fourth, senior Christian Spurr ripped a double down the left field line and later scored on an infield throwing error to take a 2-0 lead. Johns Hopkins got one run back in the bottom of the fourth, cutting the Ramapo lead in half, 2-1. Ramapo added an insurance run in the seventh. Capuano beat out a bunt single before he moved to second on a sac bunt from rookie Joe Venturino. Following a senior Dave Jacob walk, Spurr laced a single into left field allowing Capuano to come around and score with two outs, 3-1. The single by Spurr was his 222nd of his career, tying the Ramapo career hits record set by current assistant coach and RCNJ Athletic Hall of Fame member, Doug Aday (2002-2005).

After the run in the fourth for Johns Hopkins, senior starting pitcher Frank Baldini and the Ramapo defense didn't let a runner past second base in the final five innings. Baldini (4-1) fired a complete game six-hitter earning his fourth win of the season. He struck out three while walking three and did not allow an extra base hit.

Spurr was 3-4 with one run scored and one RBI in the game while Capuano was 2-3 with 2 runs scored.
