GREENSBORO, N.C. – Justin Morrison fanned a career-high seven batters in six innings of one-hit ball in Guilford College's 11-0 home baseball win over NCAA Division II Bluefield State College Wednesday.
Senior Michael Whited had a career-high four hits, including a solo homer, and two runs batted in to pace the Quakers' (1-2) 16-hit effort. Corey Wallace added three hits, including a two-run single in the third that broke a scoreless tie.
Morrison (1-0), a junior right-hander, was in command right from the start. He struck out the Blues' (0-1) first two batters and carried a no-hitter into the sixth inning before Tyler Frazier blooped a single down the right-field line, just beyond first base. Morrison quickly erased him by inducing an inning-ending double-play grounder from the next batter.
Guilford tacked on five runs with two out in the eighth inning. Chase Massey's bases-loaded double off the wall plated three of the five runs.
The Quakers host Berry College Friday in two seven-inning games beginning at 1 pm. This is a change in the original series schedule with the Vikings due to the weekend weather forecast.
