NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – Sophomore  Nick Maiolo (Powhatan, VA / Powhatan) was 4-5 with five RBI and one homerun as the Randolph-Macon baseball team defeated Christopher Newport today 14-11.

The Yellow Jackets (2-2) put themselves in scoring position early after sophomore DH Mitchell Keeler (Mechanicsville, VA / Atlee) (3-2) doubled to center on the Jackets' third at-bat of the day. A double by Maiolo would score Keeler to give R-MC the early edge.

R-MC would trade runs with CNU for three innings, tying the game 3-3 through four. With one out in the second, Nate Meiners (Silver Spring, MD / St. John's Prep) (2-3) doubled down the leftfield line to score Michael Kroll (VA Beach, VA / Cape Henry Collegiate) (1-3) who reached first on a walk. Another RBI by Maiolo would score Keeler in the third for R-MC's third run of the game.

Travis Lodge (Chesterfield, VA / Matoaca) (2-5) started a three run rally in the fifth by belting his second homer of the season to put the Yellow Jackets up 4-3. The next two runs occurred on a sacrifice fly by Bryan Miltenberger (Midlothian, VA / Cosby) and a Captains' past ball at the plate.

R-MC picked up a total of eight runs on seven hits in the next two innings to lead 11-6 going into the eight. Three of those runs were a result of Maiolo's homerun to left.

Senior pitcher Jamie Hendrick (Chesterfield, VA / L.C. Bird) (2-0) picked up his second win of the season throwing 5.0 innings with five strikeouts and no walks. CNU recorded five runs in the last two innings, ultimately falling short 14-11.
