Washington, D.C. – Marymount University's baseball team dropped a 14-4 decision at Gallaudet on Wednesday afternoon following an 11 day break from competition because of inclement weather. The Saints were unable to shake the rust off as they fall to 1-4 on the season.
Karlis Graubics and Brandon Savage both went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead the Blue and White on the day.
Things looked good early for the Saints as they posted three runs in the top of the second inning. Kicking off a two-out rally, Macon Heikes tripled to the left center gap before back-to-back singles from Ben Berczek and Gannon White drove Heikes in and put runners on first and second. A wild pitch from the Bison pitcher moved the pair into scoring position before Graubics brought them both in with a bases-clearing double to take the 3-0 lead.
Marymount's starting pitcher John LaMotta (0-1) allowed just a pair of hits through the first three innings before finding trouble in the fourth. Gallaudet took advantage of six walks from three different pitchers, including three with the bases loaded, along with four hits to post seven runs in the frame.
The Saints would add another run in the fifth as Graubics tripled to center before Jake Coleman followed up with a single to bring him home.
Gallaudet plated seven more runs over the next three innings, including four in the fifth.
Marymount returns to action on Saturday as it hosts its delayed home opener against McDaniel. The doubleheader will be played at Barcroft Park and directions to the venue can be found at www.MarymountSaints.com.
