R-MC Rally Falls Short in Seventh vs. Rowan

ASHLAND, Va. – Junior Nate Meiners (Silver Spring, Md./St. John's Prep) went 3 for 3 with one run and one RBI as Randolph-Macon dropped the first game of a doubleheader against Rowan on Sunday at Hugh Stephens Field at Estes Park.

The Yellow Jackets (2-4) trailed 6-2 heading to the bottom of the seventh and brought the winning run to the plate. Meiners had a one-out single and scored on a base hit by sophomore Bryan Miltenberger (Midlothian, Va./Cosby). Sophomore Christian Sanderson (Lynchburg, Va./Jefferson Forest) drew a walk and scored on a two-out single by sophomore Mitch Keeler (Mechanicsville, Va./Atlee). The Yellow Jackets has two on and two out, but a strikeout ended the contest.

The Profs (2-0) erupted for three runs in the top of the first on three hits. Two of the runs were unearned.

The Yellow Jackets got on the board in the bottom of the third. Freshman Jay Patti (Sparks, Md./Hereford) drew a leadoff walk, moved to second on a single by Meiners, advanced to third on a one-out walk to Travis Lodge and scored on a balk to make it 3-1.

After Rowan added a run in the top of the fourth, the Yellow Jackets answered with a run in the bottom of the frame. Sophomore Nicholas Maiolo (Powhatan, Va./Powhatan) had a leadoff single, stole second, moved to third on a base hit by Patti and scored in a single by Meiners to make it a two-run game at 4-2.
