LeTourneau Defeats Castleton, 8-3

Three double plays and a 12-hit offensive attack supported six LeTourneau pitchers in an 8-3 win over Castleton on Tuesday night at Conrad-Vernon Field.

The YellowJackets (8-0) had four players – Jordan Argabright, Ryan Bertram, Quinn Brankin and Dillon Yates each had two hits – to contribute to the 12-hit effort. Argabright also had two RBI along with five of his teammates with a RBI each.

LeTourneau starting pitcher Christian Baker went 4 innings and struck out three innings before handing the ball over to Jordan Price, who allowed just one hit and struck out four – including three straight in the fifth inning – to pick up his first win of the season.

The Spartans (1-2) took a 1-0 lead in the first inning on the strength of a pair of doubles. Leadoff batter Tyler Lord went 2-for-3 with a run to lead a six-hit attack. Starting pitcher Steve Jurkiewicz went 3 innings, allowing four runs, three runs – all earned in the loss to fall to 0-1.

Defensively, LeTourneau turned double plays to end the third and fourth innings. Offensively, RBI doubles by Sean Sellers and Dillon Yates plated two of the three runs in the third inning to put LeTourneau ahead 3-1. The YellowJackets scored two more sixth to stretch the advantage to 5-1.

RBI doubles by Jared O'Neal and Jordan Argabright and a RBI single by Quinn Brankin in the seventh put the home team up 8-1. Castleton picked up a run in the eighth and ninth to close out the contest.

LeTourneau will take its 8-0 record to the road for the first time in 2014 for its next contest when they travel to Richardson to face Texas-Dallas in a three-game series that gets underway on Friday, Feb. 28 at 2 p.m.
