The baseball team suffered a doubleheader sweep to the Vikings of Salem State University on Friday at the Gene Cusic Classic in Fort Myers, Florida.
The Vikings from the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) won with scores of 5-2 and 18-5 to start their schedule at 2-0. The Bearcats drop to 1-3.
In the morning game, the Bearcats got on the scoreboard first on a John Yuksekol RBI single to score Ryan Jacobs.
The Vikings tied the game in the third, but the Bearcats went ahead by a run in the sixth inning as Yuksekol scored from third base on a fielding error by the pitcher.
The Vikings took over the lead and the game for good in their bottom half of the sixth inning with a bases-clearing double en route to the 5-2 win.
In the second game played during the afternoon, the Bearcats suffered an 18-5 rout.
The Vikings jumped out to a 5-1 lead and finished with 18 runs on 16 hits for the victory.
Angel Tejada had two of the best highlights in the game for the Bearcats. He smacked a two-run triple in the third inning to score Pomo-Roman and Yuksekol. He followed up in the fifth inning with a two-run homer to score Pomo-Roman again.
Keith Ezersky accounted for the first run with a sacrifice fly to score Zachary Uher.
Baruch will quickly return to action on Saturday morning with a 9:00 am doubleheader in Fort Myers against Skidmore College from the upstate Liberty League Conference.
