More news about: LeTourneau

The LeTourneau University baseball team extended its winning streak to five and picked up its third-straight ASC series with a 9-2, 10-4 doubleheader sweep of Hardin-Simmons University on Saturday.

The YellowJackets (13-1, 6-1 ASC) continue to exemplify a perfect example of team success – strong pitching on the mound and an aggressive approach at the plate.

The Cowboys (6-6, 4-5 ASC) were held to three hits in game one and nine in the nightcap.

Offensively, LeTourneau had its eighth double-digit hit game en route and starting pitcher Justin Jenkins pitched a complete game and struck out six as the YellowJackets completed the series sweep with a 10-4 win in the nightcap.

Eight of the nine starters for the YellowJackets had a hit including two from Chris Bertram and Caleb Pritchett. For the Cowboys, they had nine hits – six of which came from the top three in the order.

Hardin-Simmons scored in the first for the third-straight game in the series for an early 1-0 lead. LeTourneau answered and took a 2-1 lead in its half of the inning. With one out, Chris Bertram and Ryan Bertram singled and doubled, respectively to put runners on second and third for Sean Sellers. The sophomore from Arlington drove in Chris Bertram on a ground out to tie the game at 1. Then, sophomore catcher Dillon Yates gave LeTourneau its first lead of the game when he doubled down the left-field line to score Ryan Bertram.

The game remained 2-1 in favor of LeTourneau until they scored four more in the fourth on four hits for a 6-1 lead. The Cowboys cut into the YellowJackets lead in the fifth with a three-run effort. Holding a 6-4 lead, LeTourneau scored four times in the sixth on just one hit for a 10-4 advantage.

After a 6-4-3 double play ended the seventh inning for Hardin-Simmons, the umpires decided to end the game due to rainy conditions at Conrad-Vernon Field. As a result, LeTourneau comes away with the 10-4 win.

Next, LeTourneau travels to Shreveport, Louisiana to face Centenary on Tuesday, Mar. 11 in a 6 p.m. contest.
