AUSTIN, Texas – The Concordia University Texas baseball team scored seven runs in the opening frame and rolled to a 12-2 victory over Texas-Dallas on Saturday at Tornado Field.

The Tornados (10-2, 7-1 ASC) fell behind early after the Comets (7-5, 4-4 ASC) plated two runs in their first at-bat. However, CTX sent 12 hitters to the plate in the bottom of the frame and tallied four hits while taking advantage of three UT Dallas errors to score seven times.

From there, it was all Cameron Cox.

The right-hander allowed only one hit in the final six innings, and he retired the final 16 batters he faced.

Cox (4-0), who logged his third consecutive complete game, allowed two runs (one earned) on four hits. The Round Rock, Texas, native also fanned five and walked one.

Kyle Rodriguez led the Tornados' 10-hit attack. Rodriguez was 3-for-3 and scored twice.

Ragan Pope added a pair of hits, including a triple, scored three times and stole four bases. It marked the most stolen bases in a regular-season game by a Concordia player since James White tied Lance Johnson for the single-game mark with five on April 1, 1994. Pope is only the fourth player in program history with four or more stolen bases in a contest.

The Tornados added their eighth run in the third.

One pitch after Pope stole second base, he stole third and scored after the throw from the catcher sailed into left field.

Concordia loaded the bases in the fourth and proceeded to plate three more runs. Tyler Bain and Cole Calder each were hit by a pitch with the bases loaded and Brandon Hollier reached on a fielding error that allowed Jon McManemin to cross the dish and give CTX an 11-2 advantage.

The Tornados capped the scoring two innings later.

After Pope tripled to right field and Calder drew a walk, Landon Lau placed a double to left field, which allowed Pope to score.

Calvin Campbell (1-2) did not make it out of the first inning and was saddled with the loss. The right-hander, who pitched only one-third of the first panel, surrendered five runs (four earned) on four hits and walked one. He also committed an error on a failed pickoff attempt and uncorked a wild pitch that allowed the Tornados to tie the game at 2-2.

The second game of the scheduled doubleheader and series finale was canceled due to inclement weather. It will not be made up. The Tornados had a 3-0 lead in the first inning, but the game was called following a rain delay that lasted three hours and 23 minutes.

Concordia will return to action next weekend in an American Southwest Conference series at Hardin-Simmons.
