FORT PIERCE, Fla. – Elizabethtown scored seven runs over the final three innings to stun No. 21/24 Misericordia 9-8 Sunday in Fort Pierce, Fla.
For the second day in a row, the Blue Jays' (2-0) top three hitters provided a spark. Tyler Weary's 3-for-5, three-RBI day led the way, while leadoff hitter Alex Holbert scored three times.
Holbert, Kyle Gable and Weary (2) all connected for doubles against the Cougars (1-1).
Hitless in his first three at-bats, sophomore Aaron Rahn came on strong late, registering a pair of knocks, driving in a run and scoring one.
Freshman Frank Ragozzino made his E-town debut behind the plate. He scored a pair of runs and provided the go-ahead RBI double in the top of the ninth that scored Rahn and broke an 8-8 tie.
Two pitchers also saw their first collegiate action, as Kevin Elwell provided a quality start and Josh Kwak picked up the win with three innings of relief.
Elwell went six innings, giving up three earned runs (four total) on eight hits. He punched out three and walked two. Kwak held a potent Misericordia lineup to two runs on two hits in recording the final nine outs.
