Winter Haven, Fla.-Freshman catcher Tyler Rains (North Kingstown, RI) belted his first career home run for the Rhode Island College baseball team as the Anchormen wrapped up the 2014 RussMatt Invitational with a 13-2 loss (six innings) to RPI on Wednesday.

Rhode Island College will return to home with a 3-5 record overall, while RPI improves to 5-1 for the season. The game was called entering the bottom of the sixth inning due to rain.

After the Engineers plated four runs in the bottom of the first inning, the Anchormen finally answered back in the top of the fourth with a pair of runs to make it, 4-2, thanks to a two-run homer from Rains that sailed over the left field fence and plated senior first baseman Justin Rainville (Cumberland, RI), who reached on a walk to start the frame.

RPI, however, tacked on four runs in the bottom of the fourth and five more in the fifth to run away with the double-digit victory.

Junior right fielder Tyler Santaniello (Cumberland, RI) and junior center fielder Chris Siravo (Wakefield, RI) each recorded a pair of hits on the day for RIC, while Rains went 1-for-3 with two RBI and a run scored.

Senior right-hander Brad Van Fechtmann (East Greenwich, RI) picked up the loss (0-1) in his second start of the season.

In upcoming action, Rhode Island College is set to host Roger Williams on Tuesday, March 18 (3:30 p.m.).
