HOBOKEN, N.J. (March 15, 2014) – In a windy afternoon at Dobbelaar Field, runs came at a premium between the Stevens Institute of Technology baseball team and Baruch College in a CUNYAC contest on Saturday. Stevens won, 1-0, in walk-off fashion in the bottom of the ninth inning on a single from sophomore Nicholas Sieber (Shrewsbury, Mass.).

Sieber stroked the game-winning hit through the left side of the infield to plate freshman Michael Mule' (Boca Raton, Fla.) with two outs to propel Stevens to a 6-1 record. Mule' reached base on a one-out single and stole second to move into scoring position.

Junior Peirce Marston (Silver Spring, Md.) earned the start for Stevens and carried a no-hitter into the sixth inning before Baruch (3-6) recorded back-to-back singles. The southpaw finished his outing with five punch outs over seven innings and issued just one walk in a no-decision.

Sophomore Jayson Yano (Foothill Ranch, Calif.) picked up the Ducks' first hit of the game with a single to third base in the bottom half of the first and advanced to second on a throwing error. Yano was stranded on second after the next two hitters were retired.

The Ducks threatened to score in the second after a walk to junior Ryan Mannello (Staten Island, N.Y.) and a base hit from fellow junior Brian Hennelly (Holbrook, N.Y.) to lead off the frame. After a sacrifice bunt moved the runners up, Stevens' next two hitters were unable to drive any runs in.

Baruch pushed its first runner of the game to second after a walk and failed pickoff attempt in the third inning. The Bearcats only put three runners on base in the ballgame and were retired in order in seven of the nine innings.

In the Ducks' half of the third, Yano singled and then stole his way to third with two outs. Freshman Zeph Walters (Diamond Bar, Calif.) appeared to drive in the game's first run with a single to right field but was thrown out at first to end the inning.

Stevens once again put a runner on third base with two outs in the fifth but failed to score. Senior Curt Lowenstein (Egg Harbor Township, N.J.) was hit by a pitch and moved up to third on a pair of stolen bases, only to be stranded after a lineout to center field.

In the sixth through eighth innings for the Ducks, junior Marc Calleo (Bayville, N.J.) was the only hitter to reach base on a double down the left field line.

Senior Mark Poinsett (Ocean Gate, N.J.) picked up the victory on the mound in two innings of relief. Poinsett was perfect in his outing and did not allow a ball to leave the infield with three groundouts and three strikeouts.

Yano and Hennelly each went 2-for-4 at the plate, while Calleo and Sieber were 1-for-3. Mule' tallied Stevens other base hit in the game. Yano and Lowenstein each swiped two bases and Mule' stole one.

The Ducks are back in action tomorrow afternoon for a doubleheader against The City College of New York at 12 p.m.
