Oglethorpe Drops RussMatt Invitational Game to No. 16 UW-Whitewater

More news about: Oglethorpe

The Oglethorpe baseball team could not get enough offense going against No. 16 Wisconsin-Whitewater Wednesday morning at the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational in Auburndale, Fla., and suffered a 5-1 loss as a result.

The Petrels fell behind 1-0 in the early-going, but tied the game at 1-1 in the top of the fourth when first baseman Patrick Kulick launched a solo home run. However, that was the only run Oglethorpe would get, and Wisconsin-Whitewater got a run back in the bottom half of the fourth before scoring three more in the fifth.

Center fielder Vernon Trice went 2-for-4 for the Stormy Petrels, but he was the only Oglethorpe player with more than one hit on the morning.

Starter Ryan Brennan suffered the loss, allowing two runs on six hits and two walks over 3-1/3 innings. David Langhan and Kulick pitched pretty well over the back end of the game, shutting their opponents out on a combined one hit and one walk over the final four innings.

The Petrels drop to 9-10 on the season and will round out their stay at the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational with a game Thursday morning against Gallaudet in Winter Haven, Fla. First pitch is scheduled for 10 a.m.
