Glischinski takes no-hitter into seventh to lead Ohio Northern in double header sweep over Wilmington

ADA -- Sophomore Ben Glischinski took a no-hitter into the seventh inning to lead the Ohio Northern baseball team to a double header sweep of Wilmington in its OAC opener on Saturday afternoon at Wander Field.

The Polar Bears have now won six in a row and push their record to 10-3 on the season and 2-0 in OAC play, while the Quakers drop to 0-13, 0-2.

ONU captured Game 1 by a 4-2 score and won the second game 6-2.

Northern also honored its five seniors in between the games.

In Game 2, Glischinski struck out the side in the first and recorded the first two outs of the seventh inning, before a single to center broke up the no-hit bid.

He did not give up an earned run, striking out a career-high eight batters in seven innings of work, while picking up his first win of the season.

Northern took a 1-0 lead in the third and added another run in the fourth on RBI single from senior Ben Heskett.

Junior Brady Foley and junior Dan Belliveau each had RBI singles in the fifth, expanding Northern's lead to 4-0.

In the sixth, sophomore Reed Allenreached on a throwing error that scored senior Tyler Deitering and senior Daniel Rodriguez.

Wilmington would score a run in the seventh and eighth, but sophomore Zach Maier got out of an eighth inning jam and picked up his first save.

The first game saw the Quakers jump on the board with a run in the first, but ONU responded with junior Derek Lenardosscoring a wild pitch to tie the game at 1-1.

WC jumped back in front 2-1 with a RBI single in the fifth.

The Polar Bears tied the game in their half of the fifth, with junior Anthony Piccolini hitting a single through the hole on the left side.

ONU loaded the bases in the sixth and got a RBI single from Foley and a RBI groundout from junior Jack LaMarca, to jump in front 4-2.

Sophomore Alex Crabtree fired 3.1 scoreless innings, striking out three batters for his first win of the season.

Ohio Northern will return to action on Tuesday, when it hosts Albion (Mich.) at 4 pm.
