No. 16 Concordia scored six runs – four in the first and two in the second – en route to a 9-1 win over the LeTourneau University baseball team in the series finale on Sunday at Conrad-Vernon Field.

The YellowJackets (18-7, 12-6) were held to a season-low four hits in the loss by a pair of Concordia pitchers including Kiel Harmon, who got the start and pitched seven innings to improve his record to 4-0. LeTourneau starter Justin Jenkins was handed his first loss of the season, falling to 5-1.

The Tornados (19-3, 15-2), who are currently in first place in the American Southwest Conference, with the win picks up the series victory, too. 10-different players contributed to a 15-hit attack for Concordia, where the top three in the order combined to go 7-for-12 in the win.

Concordia second baseman Estevan Hernandez went 4-for-4 with two runs and two RBI; plus third baseman Kyle Rodriguez went 2-for-4 with a run and three RBI to lead the Tornado offense.

With a 6-0 lead in the third, LeTourneau got its only run on a solo home run by junior Caleb Pritchett. In the third and fifth inning, the YellowJackets stranded a pair of runners.

Holding a five-run lead in the sixth, 6-1, Concordia picked up three more runs all with two outs for the final margin. LeTourneau relievers – Christian Baker, Jon Riley and Kirby Cantalamessa – pitched the final 3.1 innings and held the Tornados to just three hits.

Next for the YellowJackets is a three-game series at Howard Payne University in Brownwood. The action gets started on Friday, Apr. 4 at 2 p.m.
