Union, N.J. (3/31/14) – Sophomore Ryan Reitmeyer lofted a pinch-hit, two RBI single to knot the game at five-all as the Kean University baseball team rallied to defeat Rutgers-Camden, 7-5, Monday afternoon in NJAC action.

The contest, which was postponed from Saturday, gives the Cougars (15-4) and Scarlet Raptors (9-5-1) a series split in conference play.  The win moved Kean from tenth to a tie for first as no other NJAC member has been able to play a conference game to this point.

Today's game was a see-saw battle right from the start as each team matched run totals through the first four innings.  In the first frame both teams scratched across a single run without the benefit of a hit in the inning.  In the third, Adrian Gonzalez made it 3-1 with a two run shot to left, but that lead was short lived as Kean evened the game up in the bottom of the same inning as sophomore Sal Taormina tripled in two. 

It was Gonzalez again in the fifth as he launched his second homer of the game, another two run blast to left to put Rutgers-Camden ahead, 5-3.  That lead stuck until the bottom of the sixth as Kean loaded the bases with one out.  Reitmeyer, in his first at-bat of the day, found space in centerfield as sophomore Eric Fernandez and senior Shane Alvarez, who read the play perfectly, both scored, tying the game at five-all.  Kean didn't stop there as sophomore Matt Meleo used a bases-loaded groundout to bring home the go-ahead run.  Reitmeyer would later score on a wild pitch in the four-run frame for Kean.

Junior Mike Daley, who entered the game in the fifth, earned the win as he tossed five innings allowing just one run.  Daley (4-0) struck out four and walked one.

Offensively for the Scarlet Raptors, Gonzalez finished with four RBI and two homeruns while teammate Joe Brooks had a 3-for-3 day.

The Cougars will host the College of Staten Island on Tuesday (switched from an away contest) at 3:45 p.m.
