The Hope College baseball team totaled a season-high 19 hits during a 16-9 nonleague win at the University of Chicago on Tuesday.
The Flying Dutchmen won their seventh game in a row as they improved their overall record to 11-7.
Freshman shortstop Mitch Monocchio of Glen Ellyn, Ill. (Glenbard West HS), led Hope by going 4-for-6 with four singles.
Junior rightfielder Devin Schaefers of Lake Forest, Calif. (El Toro HS), went 3-for-4 with two walks and two RBIs for the Flying Dutchmen.
Sophomore leftfielder Luke Brower of Holland (Holland Christian HS) and sophomore first baseman Colton Curtiss of Zeeland (Zeeland East HS) also collected two RBIs apiece for Hope.
Sophomore designated hitter Ryan Konkle of Marshall (Marshall HS) came off the bench to get three hits in three at-bats and three runs scored.
The Flying Dutchmen took the lead for good in the top of the second by scoring four runs to snap a 3-3 tie.
Sophomore reliever Mitch Reitsma of Grand Rapids (Christian HS) claimed the win by scattering five hits and three runs over three innings. Reitsma (1-0) struck out two and walked one.
The Flying Dutchmen are idle until Friday, April 4, when they travel to Adrian College for the first two games in a four-game series. Hope and Adrian shared last season's Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association regular-season championship.
