Worcester, MA --- WPI surrendered four runs each in the fifth and seventh innings as the Clark pulled away for a 12-2 NEWMAC victory, playing as the road team at the Cougars' Granger Turf Field in the first of a three-game weekend series. 

James Conway (Newburyport, MA) and Matt Asdornuvuttikrai (Winchester, MA) each had three hits and scored twice for the Cougars. Asdornvuttikrai also had a double in the second inning, while Conway walked and drove in two runs. 

The top of the order, Nicholas O'Brien (Potomac, MD) and Zach Richall (Tyngsboro, MA), and No. 9 hitter Adam Chochrek (Foxboro, MA) also slapped two hits apiece as Clark amassed 16 hits overall, including a Chochrek homer. 

Derek Dubois (Haverhill, MA) scattered two earned runs over seven innings for Clark, while Kai Glick (New York, NY) and Joseph Gouveia (Nashua, NH) each pitched a scoreless inning in relief. 

Clark moves to 5-14 and 2-5 in the NEWMAC, while the Crimson and Gray fall to 10-7 and 3-2. The two squads will resume back at Granger on Saturday for a doubleheader slated to begin at noon and run into the early evening hours. 

WPI's Sean Kelly (Shrewsbury, MA) hit a one-out double in the first inning and then came around to tie it up at 1-1 off a Brendan Walsh (Windham, NH) single. 

Clark would score 10 unanswered runs before Zach Blanchard (Warwick, RI) got things going in the seventh with a leadoff double, advancing to third, then scoring off a Nick Comei (Haverhill, MA) liner to left field to draw it back to 11-2. 

O'Brien had an RBI triple to highlight a two-run second inning that set the score at 3-1 early one. The same score held into the fifth inning when Clark got going. 

Conway had a run-scoring single and Dennis Glynn (Jamaica Plain, MA) made it 7-1 with his two-run double to left that capped a four-run inning for the Cougars. 

With Dubois holding strong on the mound, Clark put the game out of reach with another four runs in the seventh, getting three straight hits to start the inning. 

Chochrek made it 11-1 with a two-out, two-run blast, sending a deep fly over the left field wall, also scored Asdornvuttikrai to cap the top half of the inning. 

The Cougars responded to WPI's seventh-inning run by getting it back in the top of the eighth as Richall doubled to start the inning and then set the final score, coming home on a Conway grounder through the left side of the infield.
