Thomas More Splits PAC Doubleheader With Grove City

(CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky.) - The Thomas More College baseball team split a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) doubleheader with Grove City College today (Sunday, April 6, 2014) at Thomas More Field in Crestview Hills, Kentucky. The Saints won game one, 3-2, and the Wolverines won the nightcap 4-3.

With the split the Saints are 11-9 overall and 7-2 in the PAC and the Wolverines are 5-13 overall and 3-6 in the PAC.

In the first game of the day, the Saints scored one run in the third and two in the sixth, while holding Grove City to two runs in the seventh for the 3-2 victory.

Junior pitcher Tim Baldrick (Cincinnati, Ohio/Elder) earned the win on the mound as he pitched six innings and gave up one run (unearned) on two hits and struck out five. Senior pitcher Andy Roenker (Taylor Mill, Ky./Holy Cross) earned the save as he pitched one inning of relief and gave up one run (unearned) on three hits and struck out two.

Freshman center fielder Casey Metzger (Cincinnati, Ohio/Oak Hills) led the team at the plate as he was two-for-four with a double. Senior right fielder Cody Makin (Cincinnati, Ohio/Elder) was one-for-four with a run batted-in, junior first baseman Craig Hyson (Cincinnati, Ohio/McNicholas) was one-for-two with a RBI and a runs scored and senior shortstop/second baseman Tyler Graber (Plain City, Ohio/Jonathan Alder) was one-for-three with a RBI.

In the nightcap, Grove City scored three in the fifth and one in the sixth and held Thomas More to one run in the fourth and two in the seventh for the 4-3 victory.

Senior second baseman Jason Handley (Cincinnati, Ohio/Oak Hills) led the team at the plate as he was two-for-four with a run scored.

Sophomore pitcher Brandon Humphrey (Cincinnati, Ohio/LaSalle) suffered the loss on the mound as he pitched five innings and gave up three runs (all earned) on four hits and struck out five. Freshman pitcher Ken Ruberg (Cincinnati, Ohio/LaSalle) pitched two innings of relief and gave up one run (earned) on three hits.

Thomas More returns to the diamond on Tuesday (April 8) when it hosts Centre College in a nine-inning non-conference game. First pitch is scheduled for 4 p.m. at Thomas More Field in Crestview Hills, Kentucky.
