RAMAPO SPLITS WITH RIVAL ROWAN UNIVERSITY

Mahwah, NJ: The Ramapo College baseball team split with NJAC rival #10/15 Rowan University today at the Athletic Center. The Profs took game one, 9-1, while the Roadrunners won the game two, 4-3. The Roadrunners now stand at 12-7 overall, 2-3 in the NJAC while the Profs stand at 15-5 overall, 4-2 in the conference.

The game remained scoreless until the fifth inning when Rowan scored two runs on three hits. Connor Grant drove home Kevin McMenamin and Eric Perez for a 2-0 lead. The Profs added six runs in the 8th inning to take an, 8-0 lead. The inning was sparked by Casey Grimes, as he drove home two Profs with a bases loaded single to left field. Nick Kreiger and Ryan Pavlik scored.

Ramapo got one back in the eighth, as the Profs loaded the bases on three straight walks. Scott Peschiani came home on a fielder's choice, 8-1. The Profs added one run in the ninth to take a 9-1 lead.

Dylan Johannik earned the win for the Profs, he worked seven innings with five strikeouts and three walks while scattering three hits.

Kevin Lee (2-1) took the loss on the mound for Ramapo. He struck out seven and walked three while scattering eight hits over 7.1 innings of work.

In game two, Walker Larson (2-2) pitched a complete game in the, 4-3, victory. He scattered six hits, struck out six and only walked two while he gave up three runs, none earned.

Ramapo took the lead when Peschiani laced a single up the middle in the bottom of the second inning, scoring Scott Paulus, 1-0. Paulus reached on a single earlier in the inning. Chris Werr drove home John Capuano in the third inning with a sac fly to right field to take a 2-0 lead. Ramapo added two runs on three hits in the seventh inning, extending their lead to, 4-0. Jose Garcia drove home Peschiani with a sac fly to center field before Werr was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, scoring Scott Shields.

In the eighth, Rowan scored three runs to come within one run, 4-3. Mark Benak drove home two RBI before Grimes drove a double to center field, allowing Benak to score.

Walker and the Ramapo defense held the Profs the rest of the game to hold on for the, 4-3, NJAC win.

Kevin Kelly and Peschiani each had two hits for the Roadrunners in game two while Shields was 1-1 with one run scored.

The Roadrunners return to action tomorrow afternoon at 3:00pm when they host NJAC rival William Paterson to complete the home-and-home series. The Pioneers defeated the Roadrunners on Thursday, 6-3, at home.
