FRANKFORD TOWNSHIP, N.J. (April 6, 2014) – The Maritime baseball team swept an important Skyline Conference doubleheader over Bronx-rival Mount St. Vincent on Sunday afternoon at Skylands Park in New Jersey. In game one, junior pitcher Paul Pfundstein (Deer Park, N.Y./Deer Park) was cruising into the seventh inning, not allowing a hit, before the Dolphins got to him, but it wasn't enough as the Privateers held on for a 5-3 victory. In the second game, senior Nick Sarna (Massapequa, N.Y./St. Anthony's) also gave yet another a solid performance en route to an 8-2 win. After Sideli moved to second on a groundout, he was driven home on a double by Mike Esposito. Pfundstein was able to escape after a groundout and lineout to squash the threat.

In the eighth, Mount St. Vincent added two more runs after starting the inning with four straight singles, chasing Pfundstein after he was only able to get one out in the inning. Alsdorf came in in relief and got his first batter faced to hit into an inning-ending double play and Maritime held on to the 5-3 lead. Alsdorf retired the side in order in the ninth picking up one strikeout and earning his first save of the season.

In game two, the Privateers were led by junior Albert Doerbecker (Point Lookout, N.Y./Long Beach) and Kirk, who both recorded two RBIs. Doerbecker's came in one at bat, when he singled to center in the first inning and plated juniorMatthew Sollin (Rockville Centre, N.Y./South Side) and Bauer. Junior Joe Longo (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y./St. John the Baptist) followed the up with a single through the left side that scored McLaughlin and Maritime jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead after just a half-inning. Mount St. Vincent responded with a run in the bottom of the first on a fielder's choice RBI by Jason Rivera.

Maritime scored twice more in the top of the third, as Woodburn knocked in McLaughlin with a one-out single to left. Later in the inning, Kirk brought home Longo with an infield single.
Sarna got into a groove after a shaky first and struck out three batters over the next two innings. Mount St. Vincent tacked an unearned run in the bottom of the fourth on a two-out RBI double by Esposito, but Sarna escaped the inning by getting a flyout and keeping the Privateers ahead, 5-2.

Alsdorf came into the game in the bottom of the sixth with the Dolphins threatening with bases loaded and one out, but he got out of the jam – striking out the first batter he faced and getting an inning-ending groundout to first.

With Mount St. Vincent up with last licks in the bottom of the seventh, Alsdorf had two groundouts sandwich a strikeout to retire the side in order and earn his second save of the day.

Longo and McLaughlin ended the game with two runs apiece.
