Rose-Hulman Rallies to Top Anderson 7-4

TERRE HAUTE, IND. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology scored three runs in the fifth inning to rally from a 4-2 deficit and top Anderson University 7-4 in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference baseball action on Tuesday night.

The Fightin' Engineers took advantage of three walks to bring the score within 4-3, before sophomore Evan Witsken (Granger, Ind./South Bend St. Joseph) brought home two runners with the key at bat of the game.  With the bases loaded, Witsken slapped a sharply hit ground ball through Anderson's Andrew Eiler to plate two runs and give Rose-Hulman the lead for good.

Seniors Hank Akard (Indianapolis/Ben Davis) and Andrew Benitez (Mililani, Hawaii/Mililani) led the offense with two singles each.  Akard also became Rose-Hulman's career school record holder with 40 stolen bases by taking a base in the eighth inning.

Freshman Zach Trusk (Planfield, Ill./North) took advantage of three walks and one hit by pitch to score three runs in the game, while junior Josh Hoeing (Rushville, Ind.) added a single and an RBI.

The offensive effort made a winner of senior Kevin Farley (Centennial, Colo./Littleton), who improved to 4-0 on the season.  Farley allowed six hits and three earned runs with four strikeouts in the effort.  Junior John Krasich (Westfield) added 1.1 scoreless inning, before sophomore Alec McNally (Geneva, Ill./Wheaton Academy) pitched a scoreless ninth for his single-season school record tying seventh save.

Zack Hufferd led the Anderson offense with a bases loaded triple to plate three Anderson runs in the third inning.  Connor Morris joined Huffered with two hits in the contest.

Rose-Hulman improved to 13-7 on the season and 8-3 in conference play, while Anderson dropped to 14-7 and 7-4 in conference games.  The Fightin' Engineers host Illinois Tech in non-conference action on Thursday at 6 p.m.
