Carthage scored three runs in the first inning and made them hold up in a 3-2 victory over the Vikings Wednesday afternoon in Kenosha.

The Red Men had four hits, including a two-run double, off Vikings' starter John Nemcek, who was making his first starting appearance of the season.  Nemcek followed up with 5 2/3 innings of scoreless work and reliever Matt Peterson finished up on the mound with 1 1/3 innings of two-hit work.  However, the Viking batters could not mount a rally against Carthage's Alex Newberry.  They managed six hits against the senior lefty but struck out nine times.  Reliever Sam Wilhelms worked the last two frames, and in the ninth North Park put two runs across the board as Joe Belmonte, Dan Sabin, and Brett Bernal hit consecutive singles to score one run and Mike Coduto drove in one more with a triple to center, but the Vikings were unable to bring in the tying run.
