Gorloks Make it Lucky 13 in Sweep of Principia

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 The #3 ranked Webster University baseball team hit a lucky 13, as in winning-game streak, as the Gorloks beat Principia College, 9-1 and 14-4 (7 inn.), at GCS Ballpark on April 8.  Dylan Dean Smith (SR, Albion, IL/Edwards County HS) allowed only one hit in a complete game win in the opener and the Gorloks bats had a big night.

Smith went all seven innings, allowing only two runners in the contest.  After giving up a walk in the fourth, Smith allowed his only hit, a leadoff double, in the fifth.  That runner eventually came around to score the Panthers only run.  Smith is now 5-0 on the season with a 1.95 earned run average.  His five wins lead the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference and he is fifth in ERA.

Webster scored all it needed in the first with two out.  Taylor Stoulp (SR, St. Louis, MO/St. Mary's HS) singled and Jeff Kammer (JR, Chesterfield, MO/Lafayette HS) and Joe Winckel (JR, Bonne Terre, MO/North County HS) were hit by pitches to load the bases.

Kevin Kojs (SR, New Lenox, IL/Lincoln Way Central HS) singled to score Stoulp, and Zach Allam singled to score Kammer and Winckel.  Matt Wollnik (FR, Napervielle, IL/Neuqua Valley HS) made it 4-0 by singling to score Kojs.

After a single run in the fifth, Webster muscled up in the sixth.  Corey Lasky (SR, Vernon Hills, IL/Adlai E Stevenson HS) walked and Ryan Hall (SR, Chesterfield, MO/Eureka HS) hit a two-run shot.  Stoulp then doubled and Kammer jacked his team-leading fourth home run to make it 9-1.  Kammer leads Webster and the SLIAC with four home runs and 24 RBIs.

Stoulp was 4-4, with a double and two runs and is batting a team-high .412 on the season, third in the SLIAC, Kammer was 1-3, with a home run, two RBIs, and two runs.  Winckel was 2-3, with a double, two runs, and a stolen base.

In game two, the Gorloks bats scored early and often.  Webster scored four runs in the first, one in the second, four more in the third, two in the fifth, and three in the seventh.
Hall was 2-2, with five runs scored, a double and two walks.  Lasky was 2-5, with a home run, two RBIs, two runs, and a stolen base.  Kammer was 3-4, with three RBIs, double, walk, and two runs scored.  The Gorloks had a 14 hit attack and 26 hits on the evening.  Webster as a team is batting a robust .334 on the season, leading the SLIAC.

Mitch Stefani (SO, Aurora, IL/Waubonsie Valley HS) got his first collegiate start in game two and went five innings, giving up seven hits and a walk, and three earned runs.  Stefani struck out seven while earning the win.

Webster is 11-0 and in first place in the SLIAC.  The Gorloks overall record improved to 19-3 overall.  The team inched up to #3 in this week's d3baseball.com poll and slid up four places to #3 also in the ABCA poll after a 5-0 record last week.

The Gorloks host Greenville College on April 11 at GCS for the baseball "Pack the House" night.  All Webster student-athletes and members of the Webster Community are encouraged to come out and support the Gorloks.
