Stockton Rallies Past NJCU, 7-5, as Clubs Split Two-Day NJAC Series

GALLOWAY, NJ (NJCUGothicKnights.comNew Jersey City University jumped out to a 4-1 lead and had a 5-3 advantage through five innings, but Richard Stockton College rallied for single runs in the sixth and seventh to tie it and scored two go-ahead runs in the eighth as the Ospreys overcame NJCU, 7-5, in the second game of a two-day New Jersey Athletic Conference home-and-home series on April 11.
 
Both games in the series were won by the home team and each was decided by a two-run margin with the winning runs being manufactured in the bottom of the eighth. NJCU has its two-game win streak end, as the Gothic Knights fell to 9-13 (3-5 NJAC). Stockton is 14-10 and evened its NJAC mark at 4-4. The Ospreys had a 12-7 cushion in hits in the game but did not have an extra base hit in the series.
 
NJCU did most of its offensive damage in the top of the second inning when it scored four times—highlighted by a two-run single by junior shortstop NICHOLAS D'ERRICO (Kearny, NJ/Kearny).Eighth inning RBI singles by junior right fielder George Eisenhart and junior first baseman Brett Solomen broke a 5-5 tie.
 
D'Errico batted 2-for-4 with two RBIs and a run for NJCU in the No. 9 slot in the lineup while sophomore catcher ANDREW NIECH (Avenel, NJ/Colonia) was 2-for-4 with his ninth double of the season as he tallied multiple hits for the third straight game and hit safely for the 19th time in 22 games. Freshman left fielder ERIC GIORDANO (Metuchen, NJ/JFK-Iselin) and junior center fielderMATTHEW WAGNER (Colonia, NJ/Colonia) each collected an RBI.
