In light rain and moderate temperatures, the Warhawk baseball team topped UW-La Crosse 5-1 and 11-3 in Saturday's doubleheader at Copeland Park in La Crosse.  The Warhawks are 17-3 overall and 5-1 in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.  UW-L falls to 11-11 overall and 5-5 in the WIAC.

Kyle Haen (Madison/Edgewood) scored the only run of the game in the top of the third of game one until Dylan Friend (Burlington/Burlington) jacked a three-run homerun in the eighth to give UW-W a 4-0 lead.  Mikole Pierce (DePere/DePere) followed with a solo blast to give UW-W a five run advantage.

Brock Liston (Darien, IL/Joliet Catholic) was in the groove for UW-W cruising through the first seven innings scattering just four hits and striking out five.  He hit a little hiccup in the eighth when he hit Taylor Kohlwey with a pitch.  Kohlwey advanced to second on a single, and then stole third and scored on a throwing error.  The unearned run was the only UW-L run of the game.  Liston was pulled before finishing the game and is now 5-0 with a 1.23 ERA.

Batters one through five accounted for seven of the Warhawks' nine hits in game one.  Friend and Pierce were responsible for driving in all five runs.

UW-W again drew first blood in the top of the third inning in game two.  The Warhawks went up 2-0 when Jared Fon (Germantown/Germantown) scored on a balk and later in the inning Pierce drove in Friend.

The Eagles made it 2-1 in the bottom of the fourth but UW-W extended their lead to 3-1 after five and 9-2 after six.  Friend hit another three-run homer, this time in the sixth inning, his fifth homer of the season.

UW-L scored one in the bottom of the seventh but UW-W first baseman Casey Power (Ontario, Canada/Belle River) drove in two in the ninth to make the final 11-3.

Friend was 5-for-9 on the day with four runs scored, six RBIs and two homeruns.

Curtis Morgan (Green Lake/Green Lake) earned the win in game two to improve to 4-0.  He tossed seven innings, scattering eleven hits and three runs while striking out five.  Donnie Manke (Lodi/Lodi) pitched a perfect eighth and Matt Langlie (Mundelein, IL/Mundelein) finished the game in the ninth.  The UW-W defense aided the pitching by playing error free in game two.

The two teams will face-off again on Sunday at noon at Copeland Park in La Crosse.
